Jeff has always been passionate about connecting with people. As a young man, and even to this day, Jeff has been very intentional about the relationships he has allowed into his life. Through the years his ability to navigate these relationships has changed and improved. No matter who you are or what kind of convictions you have, who you spend time with will influence who you become. This can work in both positive and negative ways. If you are spending time with people who are willing to compromise and spend time doing things that do not align with your morality or the word of God, then you will eventually start to do those things as well. Some people like to say “show me your friends and I will show you your future”. Studies have shown that someone’s environment has a huge impact on their future. It is a very difficult thing to break out of the culture you were raised in and become the person you actually want to become. Jeff has been able to break out of the culture that he was raised and find a better path for himself. This is only possible because of the work of God in his life.

Because of the perspective that he has been able to get as he has come into a place where he is actively creating the environment he wants to be in, Jeff has a huge burden for helping others become all that God wants them to be. There is nothing better than living in the calling that God has created someone to live in. God has created each and every person for a specific purpose. No matter who you are or what you have done, it is never too late to begin to change your life by turning to God. In the Bible, Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, denied Jesus three times. This was a man who had walked and talked and spent countless time with Jesus himself. He had seen first hand, the son of God raise the dead and open blind eyes. He had watched as Jesus fed over five thousand people from just five loves of bread and a couple fish. He had literally promised Jesus that he would never deny him. This man, Peter, denied Jesus three times. Can you imagine the guilt and shame he must have felt? I know I can. It must have been overwhelming for Peter. Yet, even though Peter did this, Jesus still forgave him and brought him out of this path, back onto the path of Gods plan for his life.

In John:21 15-17, it says “When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. This was the same Peter that had denied Jesus three times. You see what Jesus is doing here? Jesus is stepping into Peter’s situation in helping to show him that what he did was wrong, however Jesus still loves him and is ready to restore him. He is also showing Peter that he can use his experience to motivate him to love other people better than he did in the past. Just like with Peter, no matter what type of situation you find yourself in, you can rest assured that God wants to bring you out of guilt and shame and into his plan for your life. He loves you and he wants to use your life to have an impact on others. He kept telling Peter that he wanted him to feed his sheep. This simply means that he wanted Peter to show others the same love that Jesus had shown him. This can be your story as well.
